Hoarding is far more common than most people think. It can build up slowly over many years, or follow a bereavement, illness or a difficult period in someone's life. Whatever the reason, the person living with it usually feels overwhelmed, and often embarrassed. We will never judge.
How we approach a hoarding clearance
- Consent and involvement. Where the person still lives in the home, nothing is removed without their agreement. We work room by room and agree what stays.
- Safety first. Very full homes can hide hazards such as blocked exits, damp, mould and unstable piles. We assess the property and use the right protective equipment.
- Keepsakes found and saved. Photographs, documents, money and personal items are often buried in the clutter. We look out for them carefully.
- Discretion. We work quietly and respectfully, mindful of neighbours and shared stairs.
- Reuse where possible. Usable items are passed on rather than thrown away, which many people find reassuring.
For families, landlords and support workers
We often work with relatives worried about a loved one, with landlords and housing providers, and alongside social workers and support services. If a clearance is part of a wider support plan, we are happy to fit in with it.
Support beyond the clearance
A clearance can be a fresh start, but long-term change usually needs support. A GP can help, and Hoarding Disorders UK offers information for individuals and families.
We also have local hoarding clearance pages for towns along the east coast. You can find them on our areas we cover page.

Questions people ask
Will you clear the home without the person agreeing?
No. If someone lives in the property, we only remove items they have agreed to. Where the home belongs to an estate or landlord, we follow the instructions of the person responsible.
Can you clear a hoarded property in stages?
Yes. Several shorter visits are often easier for the person involved than one long day.
Do you deal with mould, pests or hazardous waste?
We assess hazards before we start and use protective equipment. Specialist cleaning or pest control may be needed in severe cases, and we will tell you if so.
